1 Railway Brotherhoods
Общее название ряда профессиональных организаций железнодорожников, связанное с историей их создания. Такие объединения создавались по цеховому признаку как ассоциации лиц одной узкой специальности и носили характер закрытого братства [ fraternity] или ложи, а не союза трудящихся [labor union]. Первое братство было создано в 1863, большинство - во второй половине XIX в., в пик развития железных дорог, когда господствовало подозрительное отношение к профсоюзам. Железнодорожники традиционно считались элитой квалифицированных рабочих и получали не только более высокую зарплату, чем работники других отраслей, но и различные надбавки. Лишь к 1920-м большинство братств обрели организационную форму профсоюзов. Число членов этих объединений неуклонно падало после второй мировой войны. Основан в 1969 путем слияния крупнейших железнодорожных профсоюзов, в том числе Братства железнодорожных проводников [Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen], Братства машинистов и механиков [Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers], Братства железнодорожных кондукторов [Order of Railway Conductors]. Насчитывает 125 тыс. членов (2004) в 600 местных отделениях [ local] в США и Канаде. Штаб-квартира в г. Кливленде, шт. (1889-1979) Рэндолф, Э. (Эйза) ФилипНегритянский общественный деятель, профсоюзный лидер. Выдвинулся как социалист в период первой мировой войны. В 1957 стал вице-президентом АФТ-КПП [ AFL-CIO], в 1960 создал Негритянский американский рабочий совет [Negro American Labor Council] в качестве отделения АФТ-КПП. В 1963 возглавил поход 200 тыс. рабочих-негров на г.
